Yoga Strong located at Shakertown Square with a sister studio, Barre Fly, located at Nobles Pond, and another studio in Cleveland are the creations of owner Amanda Fulmer.
As I am not familiar with Yoga my first question to teacher Megan Peters was “What Is Yoga? ”
Megan’s answer was “Yoga connects mind, body, and spirit through movement and breathing. One begins with a calm state and the addition of deep breathing will flow into and through yoga poses.”
Yoga works toward gaining and increasing strength, balance, coordination, endurance and flexibility.
Yoga Strong is a vinyasa studio . In vinyasa yoga classes students coordinate movement with breath to flow from one pose to the next. This high level of movement builds strength and endurance.
Yoga Strong teachers are trained with a blend of traditional and modern techniques creating the desired blend of spiritual and fitness oriented yoga.
Within Yoga Strong you will find a staff who each have a highly individualized teaching style and they are encouraged to be themselves.
Yoga Strong has many worthy aspirations:
- service to the local community,
- help students to achieve a spiritual connection,
- help students to think and feel deeper,
- to make students aware of what their bodies can do,
- to make students aware that they are capable of so much more, and
- to overcome any mental, physical, spiritual obstacles.
I discovered in my interview with teacher Megan Peters that her goal is to bring people to God through her Yoga teaching. During a typical class Megan will allow the music she chooses to determine the direction of her class… each class Megan teaches carries a theme. One of Megan’s class theme is mountains… with the integration of music, conversation and mountain yoga poses Megan will instruct her students in ways to overcome the mountains in their life.
The sister studio at Nobles Pond is Barre Fly. This is a very physical fusion of ballet, yoga and pilates. The intense physical exertion causes the muscles to heat up and that allows them to lengthen which is the desired effect of Barre exercise.
Yoga Strong is open throughout the week, including Sunday. Classes begin as early as 5:30am so you can begin your day on a great note. Kids are welcome and Yoga Strong even has a yoga class for “Mommy and Me” for Mom and newborns through age 3.
