I love flea markets. It doesn’t matter which town I’m in, I always make it a point to visit a flea market on my free weekends. While I understand that this is not everyone’s cup of tea, I have some great people on my visits to the flea market – hardcore flea market shoppers, some of them antique store owners who want to add some bits and baubles to their shops and some, like me, are regular folks who happen to love the hunt for interesting pieces that go well with any room in the house.
One of the great things about living in Akron is the abundance of flea markets and outdoor markets in the area. Two weeks ago, I visited one of them again – the Southside Flea Market in Arlington Road. I’ve actually been shopping at Southside since 2010 and I’ve enjoyed every visit. Over the years, I have collected a great deal of items that I’ve bought from there – a vintage lamp that goes well with the comfy sofa in our living room, mugs from different places around the world, a delicate set of ceramic tea set, some hand-poured peppermint-scented candles that smell so good and other treasures that I’ve unearthed from my hunts. Mind you, I don’t always get something and some days, I’ve had to go home empty-handed, but I always come back for more. More than the purchase, I have come to love the hunt for finding the perfect pieces that fit my style.
Southside Flea Market is open from 9AM to 5PM on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. They don’t always have the same vendors, so you’re pretty much guaranteed to find new things from their selections every week. If you’re in the market for a gift this holiday season for someone who loves antiques, try checking them out.
