Friendly’s was established in 1935 by brothers Prestley and Curtis Blake in Springfield, Massachusetts during the Great Depression. The chain store that we know of today started out as a humble ice cream shop in the neighborhood. Although it was a small business back then compared to how large it is today, their mission stays the same: to be a place where families and friends can get together and be given warm and friend service.

Over the years, Friendly’s has been under different managements, including Hershey’s, which has made it possible for Friendly’s to offer their famous sundaes topped with Reese’s Pieces and Oreos. Being under different managements has also helped Friendly’s expand their operation and grow the company significantly.

The year 2013 marks Friendly’s 78th year in the business. The management and staff still continue to serve the neighborhood with good-tasting meals and frozen delights. Friendly’s now offers meals throughout the day as well as specials for kids and those who are health conscious.
